Who We Are

William and Ernie Diener around 1940

Our Story

Homesteaded in 1885 by great-grandfather Gottlieb Diener, and handed down for generations, the ranch has now been owned and operated by Bill and Charlie Diener since 1992.

The ranch has a long and colorful history of agriculture in Lake County, California. Many crops were planted, including wine grapes. Even during prohibition, Diener Ranch continued to sell wine, then for religious purposes. However, with the Great Depression, eventually the wine grapes were taken out with the last of the vineyards removed after World War ll and replaced with walnuts.

In 1996, things came full circle with Bill and Charlie re-establishing wine grapes on Diener Ranch, growing 20 acres of Zinfandel and 10 acres of Petite Sirah. They still grow organic walnuts and currently farm 25 acres.

Each brother has had children of their own that are now grown, bringing on the 5th generation of Dieners to farm the land. With this new generation has come about the idea of creating a place for the community to gather. An event center has been imagined, and continues to grow each year with ideas of using the family ranch with it’s rich history, and old world charm, as a place of celebration.
